The Story of ACTING UP
There are two things I didn’t know about my career when I started. One was that I would end up writing inspirational romance. I will confess that never thought I’d write an Inspirational romance. I had (a perhaps unfair) impression of Christian romance as overly sappy or preachy. The covers always featured some girl who looked like an extra from Little House on the Prairie. That just wasn’t the kind of book I wrote or read. My books had snark and humor and sassy heroines.
Then I came up with an idea for a book about a cynical single woman who hates weddings who winds up running a wedding planning business. When I was figuring out the story I decided the love interest could be a minister. The story came together in an instant like Athena jumping out of Zeus’ head dressed in full body armor. Along with the plot came an entire fictional Southern town called Covington Falls. That book became MARRY ME, which debuted in October.
My next idea (which became ACTING UP) was about a Hollywood diva from a Dynasty-type show (she was the Alexis Carrington character) who loses her career and then somehow winds up directing a high school musical. I was in several musicals in high school and was also a theatre major in college so I’ve always loved drama. I loved the idea of setting a book around that. I didn’t know much else about the book, such as who the actress really was, why she would agree to direct a show with a bunch of kids or where the book would be set. Then I remembered I had the perfect setting in Covington Falls. I realized I could do a series set in the same town. The love interest for my Hollywood diva became Ethan Thomas, a character I had introduced in the first book. It was so fun developing him, and I’ve really grown to adore my little Southern town. I’ve also able to bring back familiar characters from the first book so readers can see where they are now, which is great and means I don’t really have to say goodbye to them.
So for readers out there…Are you a fan of book series? What are some of your favorites?
A Covington Falls Chronicles Romance

Until her producer husband falls in love with her on-screen daughter and a well-placed punch on national television casts her as the wicked ex-wife. Fired and disgraced, she escapes to Covington Falls, the idyllic Southern town where she found comfort in a time of turmoil as a teenager.
Life is constantly on the brink of chaos for widower Ethan Thomas. Being a single father is one challenge. As a high school principle he also has to deal with hundreds of students and their interfering parents. Now, he’s short one drama teacher and if he doesn’t find a replacement to direct the spring musical he’s going to have a riot on his hands. His childhood neighbor, Addison Covington, could be an answer to prayer. Or one more complication he can’t afford.
Before Addison can say “Casting Call” she’s drafted to direct the high school musical. Soon she’d dealing with some off-key caterwauling, a bitter stepson showing up on her doorstep, and the boy-next-door turned sexiest high school principal she’s ever met. One thing Addison and Ethan agree on is that there’s no room in their lives for romance. He’s got too much at stake, and she needs to reclaim her former glory in Hollywood. In the end, these two lost souls will choreograph a happy ending with the help of Grace, Love and a Curtain Call.
